How to improve fire safety in nursing houses

The recent fire in a nursing house in Sevilla has motivated us to write down some actions, that we would recommend to put into practice in order to improve the fire safety in nursing houses or any other places where the residents may have reduced mobility or be depending on others in order to move or take care of themselves.

These are our recommendations:

- Sectorize or isolate rooms from the fire through passive protection systems.

- Enable safe evacuation zones.

- Use flame retardant materials for furniture, curtains, rugs, etc.

- Install fire detection systems.

- Install automatic sprinklers and smoke evacuation systems to clear corridors and escape routes.
