To install a door closer is a relatively easy task, but there are a few key points to bare in mind in order to do it properly. Most usually door closers are installed on the pull side of the door (the side where the hinges are visible), but they can also be installed on the push side when required.
Install a door closer on the pull side
Step 1: Align the template with the centre line of the hinges and with the top edge of the door leaf. With a marker, trace the drilling points on the door leaf.
Step 2: Drill the previously traced points and screw in the door closer. Fix the main arm and the extendable arm, then push the main arm to tie it up with the extendable arm, leaving this one at 90 degrees.
Step 3: Lastly, you can adjust the speed and the force of the door closer.

In this case, the template must be aligned with the frame instead of the door leaf.
Step 1: Turn the template upside-down and align it with the lower edge of the frame and the centre line of the hinges.
Step 2: Mark the attachment points of the door closer and then, well aligned, mark the attachment points of the arms underneath as shown on the drawing.
Step 3: Drill and screw in the door closer and the arms. Push the main arm to tie it up with the extendable arm, leaving this one at 90 degrees.
Step 4: Lastly, you can adjust the speed and the force of the door closer.
