Fire-rated doors with CE mark

The CE mark for fire rated doors is a relatively recent concept. Until now, you could find multiple CE mark products on the market, but not fire rate doors. Even though fire doors are still not required to be marked with CE logo and certification, starting from the 1st of November of 2019 it will be an obligatory requirement for them to be market in order to be legally commercialised within the European Economic Area.

But before we explain the reason behind it, lets define what a CE mark is.

What is a CE marking?

CE marking is a quality warranty that indicates conformity with health, safety and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area. Products that come from outside the EEA, but are meant to be sold within it are often marked with CE marking as well.

With the CE marking, the manufacturer declares that his product meets the requirements of the applicable EC directives. The performances of the product must be defined beforehand and, are declared on a document called “declaration of performance”. The declaration of performance includes a brief description of the product and is the only required document to be presented to the buyer to prove the quality of the sold item.

Is the CE marking required on fire rated doors?

The CE marking is required on the majority of building materials that are meant to be sold within the EEA.

According to the classification published in the Official Journal of the European Union, the fire rated doors fit into the category of wicket, industrial, commercial, and garage doors, opening windows, fire resistant features and/or smoke control. Being regulated by the EN 16034:2015 standard, this category must be marked with CE certification starting from the 1st of November of 2019. So, from November of this year all fire rated doors that are commercialised within the EEA will need to have a CE mark that proves its quality and performance.
