Install a panic bar on the active door leaf
Although it may seem complicated, installing a panic bar isn’t that difficult. It takes a little patience, the right instructions, and a bit of precision to ensure the bar is properly aligned.
Our technical staff breaks it down into a few simple steps:
1. Place the door in a horizontal position to install the panic lock, the cylinder, and the split strike plate. Fig. 1
2. Place the black plate that comes with the bar so that it is aligned with the bulb and parallel to the edge of the blade. Mark the positions of the four notches at the corners.Fig. 2
3. Mark the cuts on the side opposite the lock as shown in Figure 3. Pay close attention to the alignment and placement of the cuts. The marks should be drilled using a drill bit diameter appropriate for the chosen fastening system—sheet metal screws or rivet nuts. Fig. 3
4. Secure the strike plate opposite the lock to the door leaf with 4 screws. Position the strike plate housing and secure it with 2 screws. Fig. 4
5. Secure the lock plate with the 2 lower screws and attach the strike plate with the 2 upper screws. Attach the handle with the upper screw to the strike plate and the lower screw to the lock plate. Measure and cut the push rod, position it between the two strike plates, and secure it with the screws. Position the strike plate housing and secure it with two screws. Attach the vinyl handle cover and the lower trim piece to the strike plate. Fig. 5
