The lifespan of the door
The lifespan of a fire-rated door refers to the period where the door still serves the safety purpose it was designed for.
That period is definitely relative, as it depends on the sensibility of the used materials that will deteriorate with time due to manipulation, use and weather conditions.
Certification
What is most important, the longevity of a fire-rated door depends on the current regulations. Doors that were manufactured under previous regulations will never pass an inspection now as the requirements weren’t the same then. Today, it is crucial to get fire-rated doors with CE Mark, which come with a Declaration of Conformity where the performance of the door is detailed, as well as the accessories and hardware allowed according to the test reports, and the guaranty of manufacturing control that proves that the door was manufactured according to the tested sample.
Therefore, in the case where the compliance with new regulations of an old door are required, we recommend to install a new fire-rated door, provided with a Declaration of Conformity that is less than 10 years old and that comes with a detailed description of the door and its performance.
