There are doors with fire resistance ratings of 30, 60, 90, and even 120 minutes that are certified to European standards. Fire resistance refers to the length of time during which a fire door can maintain its load-bearing capacity, integrity, and/or insulation properties when exposed to temperatures similar to those reached in a fire.

Fire doors can be made of metal, glass, or wood. Metal fire doors are the most commonly used, followed by glass fire doors.
Within these categories, there are several types of fire doors, which we classify below.
Based on their characteristics:
• Swing fire doors are those that rotate around an axis—the hinge—located on their left or right side. The hinge on a swing door allows the door to open only to one side, either left or right. Fire-rated swing doors are the most commonly used and are installed in all types of buildings, including schools, hospitals, and shopping centers, among others.
• Sliding fire doors were specially designed for buildings where there is a higher risk of fire due to the materials stored there or the type of activity conducted. There are semi-automatic and automatic sliding doors. Semi-automatic doors close using a counterweight system, while automatic doors are motor-driven. Sliding doors sometimes incorporate a pedestrian door.
• Fire-rated roller shutters. Specially designed for very large openings and areas with limited space.
• Guillotine-style fire doors. These are used to compartmentalize very specific areas, such as baggage carousels at airports, laboratory hallways, etc. They normally remain open and close in response to a signal from the fire detection system.
