BIM, or Building Information Modeling, is a work method that makes the creation and modification of collaborative projects easier and assures the quality of the work in the different stages of the project.
BIM modelling allows all the agents involved in a building process to create a 3D virtual mock-up of the project with all kinds of information. To do so, a dynamic modelling software is used. It covers, among other elements, the building’s geometry, spatial relationships, geometric information, along with the quantities and properties of its components.
One of its biggest advantages is that it allows to create a smart data base that is updated as the project moves forward, displaying information up-to-the-minute and allowing changes visualization in different areas simultaneously. This makes avoiding overlays and design or construction mistakes a lot easier.
